One of the only scultural pieces crafted by the artist, centred in a love for the sea.
Represented best, by the Great White Shark, who frequents the Cape Town waters.
This endangered animal is but one of many ocean creatures who are gravely threatened by human pollution, mainly plastic as we all know.
The completion of this sculptural piece was united with photography, where a sequence of sixteen photos were taken in different common trash-cans close to high-traffic pedestrian walk ways.
In every situation, not a single person considered that the statue was highly valuable and not meant to be there, but surrounded by the trash, the assumtion became that it was worthless, and it would get more trash thrown over it.
The statue was removed from all of these pop-up locations and cleaned afterwards before exhibiting.
The form of this rather simplistic statue does refference a pop-culture poster from a movie that both idolises the Great White shark, and demonises it.
Although, for shark, and ocean lovers, this artwork can fullfill a more decorative role as a prime sea-themed Fine Art aesthetic, for an aquarium, rescue-centre headquarters, or home.
